This is my second post, another rug inherited from my father's collection. This was in our family when I was a child, so it is at least 50 yeas old. It is 4'6" by 6'5", and is wool on cotton foundation. In a 1987 appraisal, it was called a "Khoum" - is this the same as Qum ? Looking at it, with some of the things I've learned in this forum, it looks like it has a lot of Tabriz design elements. It needs re-fringing on both ends, and selvedge repair on both sides. Is it worth a professional restoration ?

Refinish the ends of the rug (a bit of pile has been lost in some areas) and refringe, and selvedge repair.

Yes, I think repairing would be warranted. Depending on your preferences, monetarily it may be well advised to keep this to bare necessities. Meaning, mostly securing as opposed to beautification or restorative work. When this work is performed, you may want to ask them to remove as little material as possible, and discuss with them what they can do vs. what you actually want accomplished.
