Hi,
I've tried to look at your pics but they all appear to be the same pic when I download them??? I can only see the back of your rug. Can you give each pic a different name when you post them to the forum??-- Thanks!

It's just photo of the back but it appears to be a Kashan about 20 years old.

I agree with Sharafi although to add it may be Ardekan and perhaps up to 40 years old. A lot of these were made in the 1970s, stockpiled or used in Iran due to embargo, then sold to export markets once sanctions were lifted.

You have not given the size for this piece. Assuming its 400x300cm then the auction price for it is $500 to $700. Unfortunately the market for these goods in an auction is very weak but they are worth a lot more than that.

To follow up with Sharafi's valuation ranges as an important point for consumers to understand - the difference in pricing from auction to dealer should not be construed as a better value or profit as most 2nd and 3rd tier auction rugs need significant attention including mending, cleaning and repair. Further, there are very serious risks when purchasing from auctions even for a seasoned expert. If you do not know what you are purchasing you assume a high probability of a misinformed purchase. It is best to buy from a trusted and reputable dealer.

I would certainly agree with Rugpro. We have had people that have bought rugs from auction and brought it for repair and found out that the work is a lot more than they had anticipated. Additionally rugs are not groceries that are sold round the clock and are a expensive investment with high overheads for the dealer. So in the long run for a serious collector it would work out cheaper to buy from a trusted dealer.
