I saw this pic locally and will be setting a time to see it. Unfortunately I only have the two pics taken by the seller.
Any clue on what this rug is?? It measures 13 feet by 11.5 feet.
Thanks!

could be sarouk although I think it may be from another weaving country. try to get corner picks and revers. Something about the way this rug creases looks like it drapes more like a blanket than a Sarouk construction may

Thanks RugPro,
I agree with the draping, handkerchief handle. Here are a few more pics the seller sent me.

I think its a Mahallat carpet. Mahallat is a very pretty town in the Arak region. The wool is very shiny and soft but not very fine. I actually like these types of rugs. Because they are very good value for money and have very good soft, shiny wool.

Thank you Sharafi,
A couple of questions: 1) how old; 2) since it has soft wool, but not fine wool does this mean that the wool used was the type used for clothes and that it does not last long?; 3) they want $2500 for it. It is a large rug. Is that a fair price?

It looks as if its about 30 years old. It is carpet weaving wool but it feels very soft to touch and with a good sheen and it does not effect its durability. $2500 is a good price for a shop sale. I think it is on the high side for a private sale. Please keep in mind that with the photos that are given (even if they are good) valuing a rug is not that easy. The best way is to see it, feel it and look and see what problems it may have. The shape, dyes, density, so many factors that effect the price that cannot just be seen in photos for a proper valuation. So these are more guesstimates. But for a private sale I would have thought around $1500 for be good for both parties.

Thank you. Your best guesstimates are educated, expert guesstimates and I appreciate this extremely.
So much to learn. Thank you again.

I agree with Sharafi although the rug appears to be of good character and a little older in my opinion
