Hi,

Again, I would please like to have the attached bag pair identified as to,
1) approx how old
2) who / what tribe could have made them
3) how many knots per sq inch
4) natural or chemical dyes
Size of each bag approx 15" x 18". They were purchased in Afghanistan in March, 1979.

Pic 2 shows both bags and the 'back' of one bag. Pic 2a is one square inch.

Baluch, double wefted, wool on wool, asymmetric, 7 knots across and 13 down from the reverse pic posted...older, 1910's I think.

THANKS Cartona!!!!! Just the kind of details I have been looking for in replies, simple and straight forward, it covers almost all my questions and easy to understand.

Whats you guess on dyes then, synthetic or 'natural'?

I agree with Rug Pro. ..there's so much to learn. These were made by nomadic Afghan tribes..only natural dyes were available / used. THE Iranian Baluch tribes were settled and had access to other dyes so they were more colorful.
