it seems I see rugs wherever I go.I found this one at a flea market underneath a lot of junk. I paid 49 dollars for it. Its old but I can't figure out what kind it is. looking at the structure, it doesn't seem to have an asymmetric Knot. It is single blue wefted, with only 80 kpsi. The pile is worn in the middle and fuller around the outside. Some of the wool looks mottled perhaps from blending of wools or from dye stuffs that reacted differently to age. It doesn't appear to be due to blooming. In fact the structure in the back looks a lot like a the Baktiari we have. Can anyone tell me its age, structure, and type???

KAD, RugPro, and Nick, thank you all for your identification and feedback. A couple of questions: 1) looking up Mehriban/ Mehraban rugs, one site said Manchester wool was used??? If so was this wool dyed by the weaver ??? 2) I am not sure if it is painted, as it does not have the typical lighter area in the field adjacent to the darker designs, but it does have that mottled appearance which doesn't appear to be abrashes..???; 3) Was this a city rug made for Iranian families since it was made in the 1920 - 1940's--- post WW1 and pre WW2-- Thanks again.

As far as I know Manchester wool was used in Kashan and certainly not in Mehraban region. I believe the piece is tinted as well.

SHARAFI,
Thank you very much for responding. I'm learning all the time... wish I could go to school for this.

To me it looks like a hamandan type, maybe an early dargezine. The rug may have good wool but not manchester wool.
