Can you tell me what kind of rug this is and its approximate value. It is 4 feet by 6 feet. Thank you.

pak kazak circa late 1990's. the ones with grey fringe like this often have a glossier wool. This production is before they really spooled up weaving to the amount now being made

Thank you RugPro, for your reply. the wool on this rug is actually very glossy, I thought it was silk at first. ANother thing, if you look in the picture, you can see that the pattern on the corners is omitted on one end. There are also some other "mistakes" here and there. Does that effect the value? The back on the rug is very scratchy, but supple, I thought the gray was wool, is that correct. Also, I bought this at auction, along with the other one I posted. I am wondering of the retail value. Thanks again!

corners not being reconciled does not have impact on value. foundation is cotton, just grey due to style. It's likely to emulate original Kazak rugs which did have wool, often grey/brown foundation. Pile is wool but will feel silk. be very careful at auctions, it's not a good way to reliably purchase rugs and can be extremely risky even to someone who is knowledgeable

Any estimate as to the retail value if I were to purchase this rug in a store? It is about 4' by 6'. Thanks.

Others on the forum may chime in with value information or ballpark ranges. At times the value ranges can be extremely helpful. However, the site does not moderate this information for accuracy, and when accurate, it can sometimes date quickly. This can be especially misleading for forum onlookers who find threads via search engines months or even years later. The forums are really good, although to properly consider value in a meaningful way the item at hand and purpose of valuation need to be carefully considered in a one-on-one manner and anything a professional arrives at should be backed up in some manner through research and a reasonable understanding of the market on multiple levels.

Thank you, the site is a real asset for those who love rugs and know a lot, but especially for those of us who know very little and are in the process of learning. I understand your reservations about giving estimates under rug identification. I was just curious because I bought this rug at an auction in New England where rugs are not usually offered.
