Hello,
I bought this rug from an estate auction couple years ago and now I would like to sell it. It looks like it's a hand knotted rug, but there's no tag. The dimensions are 11.3" x 8.3".
Someone told me that if the rug has no tag, it dramatically reduces the price. Is this true?
Could you please help me to identify the origin of this rug and the market price. Thank you.

It is a reproduction of an Aubusson design. It appears to me to be woven in Northwest Iran, possibly Ardebil. It would have been around $3000 to $4000 new. I think it was woven about 10 to 20 years ago. Now I would have thought it should bring about $1000 in an auction, but because it is a Persian reproduction of a French peace it will have a bit of difficulty in an auction.

Thank you Sharafi & Co.

Is this true that if rug doesn't have a label, the price will be significantly reduced?

I suppose it depends on the Label. If it is from a very famous designer it can help but it will not effect the price that much. Certainly no significantly and in the case of this particular rug I would say not at all.

I agree with some of what Sharafi says although I think the structure of the rug may hint to several other weaving countries of which include China (160 line) and Pakistan early higher grade 1980's.

Thank you RugPro. If the origin of the rug is China or Pakistan, what do you think about value?

I don't really provide values on the forum anymore. Not necessarily on a carpet like this, but often, value needs to have some research and a lot of considerations evaluated including individual's needs. Also, the threads tend to get dated but remain indexed on the internet. After looking more closely at this rug, it appears as though there is some blooming to the pile, which will affect value, and the rug is likely in the range of Chinese 150 line perhaps. You can try the rug estimator pro. I think something like this would be a start: http://www.RugRag.com/Ap...0-4206-AB78-C790F972D008 The selections have very specific purpose, so a rug that exhibits some use is basically in good condition even if it looks excellent, blooming wool tips makes it lower than normal but even and the selection for refringe is to account for small anomalies.

Remember the estimator does not have eyes, and private party value would be considerably different.
