I am trying to ID this small rug I recently acquired. It feels somewhat different from my other rugs and I thought it might be silk? It is small, about 24" X 36" and in pretty good condition. I did try the burn test for the first time but I am not sure how to evaluate it. (the pile smelled like hair and balled up. The strand of fringe just turned to ash so that must be cotton.) I also note that the pile strands are much more distinct than on others I compared it to. I don't have any other silk rugs so I can't compare with a known. My guess is that is is some type of Persian but please let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Bruce

It is not silk and I think it's Indian.

the design is sarouk, the rug however is made in India circa early 1980/s. Very good photos, although I do agree this is wool pile and cotton foundation

Thanks for the help on this one. I was just guessing when I saw it. It felt a bit different and the strands of pile are more distinct (twisted tighter?). In any case, it was too cheap not to purchase. I bought this and another one I will try and post soon.
Thanks,
Bruce
