Hi folks, this is my first post so I hope I do it correctly.

I purchased this beautiful small high quality rug recently from a local auction and would appreciate any help with identification and possible value.

It is very small 17"/43cm x 11.5"/29cm and is mounted and framed. I don't want to remove it from the mount as I think it is the best way to display it, too small to go on the floor. It feels like silk and the knot count is approx 600. Would this be a tourist piece? Is it Persian? Any clues to age? I've never seen anything like this especially with the floral border at both ends. I can't read the writing but it looks Persian?

What sort of value would something like this have? I may sell if worth it, have no idea as it is so small etc. Will keep otherwise. Any help most appreciated, thank you.

Thank you Rugpro and Nick for the suggestion of possible Hereke, something I had never heard of... I've just done a quick internet search and it does seem to be the style with the top panel etc. I now have somewhere to research now which is great. If it doesn't have a 4 cord salvage would that mean it is certain to be from India? Doesn't sound nearly as exciting! Many thanks.

Hello again, feeling rather foolish as I have just been having a closer examination to try and identify the type of know which by the way is impossible for me! Anyway I found a label on the back indicating it is from Ozipek Hereke. I know a label doesn't guarantee authenticity but when I handle this and the whole composition of the design it seems rather special...

A lot of people on the forum are suspect of calling rugs Hereke. Rightfully so.

'Good' Chinese reproductions can be quite convincing. They have reverse engineered these rugs well in many respects. Even with experience and a high level of scrutiny, proper ID can be difficult. Locally in Turkey we have seen carpets that appear to have character more consistent with Chinese copies. It's something to be aware of, and best to buy from reputable dealers with established connections to the looms as opposed to tourist purchase. On this carpet it does appear to be authentic Hereke - so I would not be too concerned about these points.

Sharafi and Rugpro thank you for your comments I really appreciate your help. I've been researching all day yesterday and it all seems good to me who knows next to nothing about carpets. It is more important to hear from people like yourselves who actually know what they are talking about as there is so much mis-information out there in cyber world!
Could I ask for an approx pointer towards value if I sell it on eBay please? I'm finding it difficult to value as there are so many copies out there and this is very small...

I emailed the Hereke Carpet Weavers Association yesterday asking them for an authentication and I have had an email back from Han Hali a member of this Association confirming that my rug is genuine also so I'm really pleased and impressed at such a quick response.

I don't think ebay is the right forum for selling this or any rug for that matter. Not yet anyway. However, I would have thought that you can get about $200 to $300. But it is difficult to sell small pieces. Good luck anyway.

Thank you Sharif, only $200? Gosh I would much rather keep it, I wonder what I would have to pay to replace it. I sell quite a lot of Antiques on Ebay and find it good if your willing to wait for the right buyer and not give everything away on quick 7 day auctions. I have been told by the Turkish HanHeke people that approx 500-700euros value, which for that I would consider parting with it, but we'll see. It is only worth what someone is willing to pay and I am willing to let it go for and I like this piece very much myself...
