I picked this up awhile ago and just finished cleaning. Can anyone tell me what this is? Size is 12'11" x 8'11" It has a thick pile and is very pliable. The knotting on the back is different than any of my other rugs. Is it hand knotted? thanks for any help!

Thanks Sharafi & Co. and Kad for your responses! Kad- are these types of rugs in the same catagory as hand tufted rugs?

I did a bit of a test on a inconspicuous area and pulled a piece of wool out. It does seem to be hooked. I've just always seen these rugs with glue like a tufted rug. I'm suprised it held up so well with the cleaning I gave it. It is a pretty rug all clean, but I assume this will not hold up to a high traffic area?.

Going on the appearance in how the design is made, the direction of the weave appears to follow the colors. This means there are less color changes, and therefore, this is faster way to make a carpet perhaps similar to soumac in that way. Relative to a traditional knotted carpet, my guess is this would be an inexpensive alternative to knotted, but perhaps more costly than traditional glued tufted.
