Hi I purchased this rug for a couple of dollars even though it was filthy and smelled. Mainly to try my hand at cleaning a heavy rug. After several washes, the dirt and pet smell are gone. Now that ive managed to salvage it instead of burn it I'm wondering what it is. The size is 97" x 118" Thanks!

Also the marks you see in the full picture are vacuum marks. In viewing it on here it looks like dark areas. It seems that standing at either end of the carpet the color tone changes? Dark from one side, light from the other. Is this a defect?

Certainly don't burn it. It is an Indian rug seems to be good and full pile. You have done a good job.

Thanks for the response and info Sharafi. I won't be burning it after eradicating the pet urine smell. It was a long process, and hours of work, especially working with the thick pile! Any suggestion on what this design would be called? an Indo-? or the age? I assume its recent, just badly abused by its previous owner.

I would call it an Agra design.

Indian - good quality, pet odors and stains are a problem, be sure the rug is 100% dry. wool can hold a lot of water weight and feel dry. Especially these Indian rugs

They sure do! Even in outside 90 degree temps, lifted and with fans blowing it took several days! The entire process took over a week to complete, mostly due to the pet odor. But proud to say this project no longer smells like a dog kennel!

A rug this size and thickness fully saturated can be several hundred pounds. Great work!
