Hello.
I am new to this forum but I am much interested in persian rugs especially antique ones. I have found a carpet that was listed as antique persian Tabriz of the 20th century. To my limited knowledge it looks like a "Haji Jalili" Tabriz more of late 19th century. It is 12 X 9 feet. I need an expert opinion and an approximate appraisal. Attached is the only photo I have for it.
Thanks.

Welcome to the forum!

The cost on these carpets varies wildly based on many factors that include almost anything imaginable - age (20 years makes a difference), design rarity, color, quality of color tones, originality/condition/wear, provenance, tightness of weave (workshop rugs), repairs-restoration and the quality of. For 9x12 you could be looking at an 5,000 or 50,000 rug. Do you have additional photographs and information? As a rudimentary tool, the rug estimator can help. Someone on the forum once said something very accurate about this tool however - it does not have eyes!:

This would be a typical 1900-1915 Tabriz with not too many colors, light but even wear, maybe some selvage work

This would be a sample of an piece with characteristics of an older piece, a few more color and clearly natural dye. Some of the newer ones may appear natural but they really were early synthetic then washed.

The best thing to do is look at recent auction records through main auction houses, maybe see if there are notes on condition for similar design/age rugs and compare to this piece.

Dear Rug Pro
Thank you very much for your elaborate reply. I have another Haji Jalili, I would like to get your opinion about it. It has a very low even pile. I think I will have to put in another post.

Would $4000 be a reasonable price if I will have to buy it without really having more detailed photos?

You can normally get condition reports. For a business who would then have to sell on the rug (after carrying out repairs) and make a worthwhile profit I would say $4000 would be debatable. But for an individual/end user that rug at $4000 as long as the condition is good or fair would, in my opinion, be a great buy. It's a gorgeous rug.

Dear Little Persia
Thanks for the reply. The condition is good as was told without the need for repairs. It is for my individual collection. So, I assume I would try to get it for that price.

From the one photo it appears to be a beautiful carpet. However, there are just not enough images to say anything relating to what the rug is or may be, especially not condition. Please if you have access to more images kindly post!
