Looks like a an artificial silk Indian Kashmir with very bad chemical dyes. Certainly not Qum.

Sharafi,
The rug has a wool pile, cotton warp, and silk highlights. I don't believe it is artificial silk. There are some small moth dents on the outer border. The highlights are silk and the
Knot appears to be Persian. Can you take another look? The
Colors are actually softer and not so garish as the outdoor lics. The colors are more an ocher red, yellow, and brown. The colors do look garish and harsh but they are softer and vibrant at the same time. I would appreciate it if you could take another look.. thanks for your trouble.

Obviously I could be wrong as I don't the rug in front of me. However, I don't think I am. I looked at the pictures on my phone and today I am looking at them on my desktop and they certainly appear to be as I saw them. I am sorry to disappoint.

At the risk of being really annoying, can you look at the additional pics that shows the rug's true colors? ?? The 3rd time is a charm/ curse???

I understand. You have been living with a rug that you are now being told is something other than you thought. Very much other than you thought. It is difficult to accept, but the more images you post the more certain I become of what I have already said. However, as I said I maybe wrong, as I do not deal in these goods. There are very good experts on this site and if I am wrong you can be sure they will correct me.

It is a rug from Kashmir, wool and natural silk Highlights. It was made in the early or mid 1980´s. As Sharafi stated it is not a Qum rug. It is not of bad quality - the rugs that were made back then had good wool and natural silk. Artifical silk was usually used for full pile art silk rugs.

KAD and Sharafi,
Thanks for taking the time to reply to all of my questions. I found the comparison on RugRag home page that compares an Iranian Qum to an Indian Qum and learned a lot about Qum's. I can see now some of the significant differences between the true Qum's and my rug. What threw me off was the wool pile and silk highlights and the knot count. The article referred to the way that the fringe and the flat weave come out of the Qum as well as the colorful stitching at the end of the pile that all Qum's have.
I paid $175 for this rug because it seemed to be a quality piece and later thought it might be a Qum...the woll with silk highlights attracted me. Can you tell me what identifies this rug as a Kasmiri?? What is the most glaring thing besides the colors?? Once again thanks for your patience in answering my questions and taking your time to look at this piece.
