I bought this rug about 35 years ago, maybe more, at an auction in NYC, can't remember which one. I spent 565 at the time, and that was pretty much all of my savings. I loved it and used it for many years, unfortunately it was in my living room, with very high traffic, and thus a lot of wear. The back has the strands of wool not shorn. I believe it is a Kazak, and because there is the magenta color, probably an older one. I would be interested in an opinion on this rug. Thanks!

It looks to me like a very pretty Soumakh and it certainly worth washing, which bring the colours out even more and having it restored. Nice piece
