Got this rugs and the centre doesn't seem to match up with the borders - any ideas?

that's an interesting one. I would guess sarouk, which would be unusual to have the geometric center and a floral border. Cant remember the last time I saw these two worlds brought together in such a way.

From the texture and feel we had also thought it could be Kashan or Sarouk, it's a strange one... but I like it.

Comparing it to the knotting of one of our other Qum wool rugs I think you could be right (http://www.little-persia.com/img/1230_12.jpg).

What would you think would be the reason for the differing designs? Just experimentation?

1950-60 qum rug, beautiful piece. Typical at this time was that qum had a small amount of designs and copied and mixed fromother provenices.
