Uh oh...how old is it? It has a date of 1313..1895 on it. What gives this rug away as not being that old?...colors, fringe, selvedge...I would really like to know how to tell the difference. Please help. Thanks!

We are going to se this rug on Friday. Is it a real Kuba, Konakhend (soerry I butchered the name) of 19 C. era. It has a date of 1313 which translates to 1895?? Thanks!!

Ok let me start by saying that I don't know my Caucasians very well but I think it is a kuba and I think the date is right. I would have thought that if you can get it below $1500 you have got a good deal, unless you want to sell it on. But I don't like the colours that much, which will make it difficult to sell on.

Sharafi,
Thanks so much for your reply. This rug is up for sale at an auction-- the same auction house where I bought all of those Indians masquerading as Persian. So I wanted to be very careful not to buy another Indian or Pakistan facsimile. My husband loves Caucasian rugs, but I like the Persians and we have a couple of really old 19 Century Caucasians (Shirvan and Kuba Divichi district) I posted a while back that are beautiful, but beat up. I will try to sell these on one of the sites... maybe RugRabbit and replace with this one. My daughter joined RugRabbit and got me a book on Azerbaijani Caucasian Rugs-- which is great !!!!

Thanks again!!!
