I brought this home for approval and have discovered a lot of detail I did not see before. There are 4 birds, not stylized in the rug and the knot count is @300 kpsi. So I am sending additional pics for evaluation. Please take a look at the pics and tell me if it changes any of your evaluations..KAD thought it was Indian Kashmir... as Sharafi said it looks like a Kashan and I would to verify this before i purchase it.

This is Indian Kashmir early 1970's to early 1980's. Caution on the color migration. Staining or discolorations are hard to get out. I would not consider this a collectible rug, but it will sure service for many, many years. Do you have a photo of the reverse to include?

Actually it is no wonder that it is thought to be Kashan since they (Indian producers) copied very good perisan rugs. Looking at the design it could be thought to be kashan. looking at the wool (it is stiffer than on persian Kashan quality rugs) it is easy to tell the origin. Also the color combination (sytetic light green, orange) are typical for Kashmir of this age. Next point: look at the kilim border - indian kilim borders and fringes look totally different from persian.

KAD, RUGPRO, Sharafi, thanks to all of you for taking the timne to help me understand what the origin and source of this rug was. The information you provided on the design, fringe, color, dyes, wool, and kelim are all so important for understanding and identifying these Kashmiris.

Thanks agaiun for your time and expertise.
