This rug measures 3,11 by 5,8. It is perfect condition. .no worn spots..even pile.This one is $650 and is from the same seller as the Kashmir Indian rug in my previous post
From my books it looks like a Perepedil, Kuba
.the ivory background is associated with a bride.??? Can you tell me its origin, type, age, and a fair price to pay?

[quote=nick]Hi
I would say its a copy if its the real deal its cheap at $650[/It looks and feels older-- the colors are clean --- it looks real to me. There was a slight issue on he selvedge on the side-- less than 1 inch....The fringes are worn, a few knots still remain after the flat weave, but do not compromise the flat weave. Would the age be 1920's as the book I have indicates???quote]

Thank you Nick for your feedback. Can anyone else help me in in knowing if this rug is a Pereperdil?? colors look muted and the rug has the feel of an older rug with expected fringe and selvedge condition.. What other characteristic would help identify it? Thanks so much... I plan to get this one tomorrow.

Perpedil design, for other ID we would need to see the selvage, and fringe detail photos front and back

Another point for this rug...both the selvedge and kelim section of the fringe are somewhat rigid..perhaps glue has been applied to stabilize the edges. What impact may this have on the rug's value? Should it be removed via soaking? I do have it home for approval and taking a harder view. THANKS IN ADVANCE! !

It is a real azerbeijan rug. These rugs were made using the traditional shirwan, moghan or perpendil designs in the soviet times, around 1950. - 1980. the rug you posted seems to be from the 1950 / 60. Usually antique perpendils are wool on wool, this one is wool on cotton.

So: yes, it is a real perpendil rug and no copy from ardebil, turkey or other countries. It is not of great value or collectors intereset but still a very nice and well preserved piece. The price is good, there seem to be no issues why you should not buy it.

KAD,

Thanks so much for your quick reply which I needed to get back to the seller. I am curious-- Are only the antique ones (wool warp, >100 years old) of value? Or, would it take another 40-50 years for it to have value??? Or, were there so many made that it is fairly common and it will never be of much value. Just trying to gasuge if I should keep it. The price for this one is $650. Thanks again!!!

Rugs older than 100 years are few. In the 1950-80 many were made. I don't think this rug will immensly rise in value in the comming years, but you never know. The price is ok. Don't buy rugs as investments unless younrally know what you are doing. Much more risky than shares.

This forum rocks!!!! I am so grateful. Thanks so much. Steep learning curve still going on.
Thanks KAD and to all ofh te other experts. When I joined the forum my first questions were about a 100 year old Ferahan Sarouq we bought and did not realize how rare it was. So much to learn...
