This is our dining room rug. We bought this 25+ years ago. I was told it was a Baktiari and we paid a pretty penny for it. It measures 12'6" x 9'. Is it Persian? How much would I have to pay for a rug of this type now? Oh, is it Baktiari and is it just 25 years old? In my current research, I haven't seen one like it. The large floral displays reminds me of a Sultanabab design and it does not have a real center medallion. Please help us identity what we bough. I love the colors and plan on keeping it.

Sorry for the additional post, but is my dining room rug a Serapi and not a Baktiari? I saw one similar to it posted on KAD's site. Thanks for your help.

when the rugs are adapted it is hard to decipher design sometimes since the technical characteristics usually are combined with aesthetic, and interpreted designs are often changed a little. This rug appears to have been made in India with a Northwest Persian design

Hmmm... that's disappointing. We bought this rug a couple of decades ago from a reputable 'international' Detroit auction house and it was listed as a Persian Baktiari...After I joinred the forum in February, I have been trying to verify/ identify our rugs authenticity regarding how they were identified (or not) when we bought them. It really is caveat emptor even when buying from a well known auction house. Some of the knowledge I have amassed recently since joining this forum, tells me that I overpaid for this rug. We paid @$2000 for this rug and since it is an Indian rug with a Persian design, not as vaulable as a Persian. Can you tell me from the pics if the knot is asymetrical? I don't believe it is a Pakistan double knot since it does not have the 1 to 2 proportion of knots on the warp vs. the weft layout. Can you tell me what the approximate value of the rug is given that it is Indian and not Persian??? Thanks for all your expertise.

Note: I had to post this twice for some reason-- it did not go through the first time.

I don't know that you overpaid necessarily, it just does not appear to be Persian. Buyer beware for sure at auction!
