Looks like the seller may be right. to me I would say it's either a Tabriz from the 40's, or more likely a Kayseri from Turkey going by the edging...but condition is not excellent, it's good. I think it's showing close to threadbare in one area, or at least slight corduroy

It's at no reserve, what would something like this normally sell for on ebay?

Its tough to say... The pictures are large, but not of great quality, so bear with me here. value i would say 150-350. as I said before, I think the rug shows a little more wear than is stated in the auction. I am positive I can see some areas where the rug has thinned a little. Often is the case, some sellers will say a rug does not have wear unless the rug actually shows foundation. This does not appear to be the case at all whatsoever with this rug, but as a rug person, no rug can really be called mint or excelent condition unless it looks like it's been cut from the loom... This rug is showing some signs of wear, and therefore shouldnt be termed "mint". Also, the rug looks like it may need a wash

I think I remember this seller had a Kerman in the fall of 2007 that had some very aggressive bidding on eBay. It was a 6x9 from 1930's with an ivory background with a main border that the design ran into the secondary and terciary borders a little. People dove in on with auction stealer last minute bidding to bring the price from $900 to $1700 in the last couple minutes: this seemed to me more like retail price.

It later got relisted an additional time and I think sold at $1250 or so: I wouldn't make a forecast on this tabriz rug, I think most people won't see the imperfections from the photos that a pro would and it could be shilled. Watch it and you'll see if it gets relisted or goes with second chance offers.

That's a serious implication you're making. How sure are you of this?

about being shilled? I don't know. only a guess, it just seemed like a heck of a lot of activity for the rug. It did initially have a buy it now of $700 though, and I think it's curious it was relisted. here are the areas of wear on this rug

Tabriz, I think its wrong to speculate and say it may have been shilled. Almost a little surprised given your astute comments and contributions in the suspicious advertising techniques.

I also saw the wear. The rug has got 6 days left, I'd be interested to see how the auction runs - It's already at $44 now. This should be an interesting

Maybe it was, maybe it wasnt, but the kerman that sold had some very, very early bidding activity, and heavy last minute activity too. The buy it now was taken out by bids within the first 7 hours of being posted by a buyer with 0 feedback, and never bid again which is very, very unusual.

That does seem odd. How the heck do you remember this?

I used to spend dozens of hours on eBay a week just looking at what was out there. Sometimes something interesting would pop up and I'd buy it for my personal collection.

After seeing the poster of this auction showing additional photographs, it seems more likely this is a Turkish Kayseri rug rather than previously mentioned Tabriz. I would imagine the same era however. Sorry for any inconvenience, it should not affect your decision significantly.

Does look turkish. The rug ended at ~$350 with $30 shipping. Cant imagine most people seeing the wear this rug appears to have... lets see if it gets relisted
