I need help in determining what our other rugs are. I will be doing one thread for each rug. Attached are pics for a Persian Kasmar?????? We got this rug about 2 years ago for $600. It is 9 feet 6.25 inches by 12 feet 10 ". The rug is in perfect condition and I believe it to be about 1970's?, It is a very thick rug where you cannot get your fingers in it. The design can be seen on the back of the rug clearly which can be clearly seen on the back. I lived in IRan for a year while I was in college, accompanying my family when my father had a Fulbright to teach Biochemistry at the University of Teheran . I also taught English in a Persian Armenian school while I was there. I was also enrolled as a student at the University of Teheran and took courses in Statistics and graduate English Literature courses. So I have a fondness for all Iranian things-- rugs, miniatures, samovars,So please bear with me as I bring up rugs we have bought in the past as I try to find out more about them. One question I have is what date is woven into this carpet-- the numbers are so stylized I cannot figure them out. I think this is a 1970's carpet.

quite an interesting background you have! this does appear to be Kashmar weaving. they are often very pictorial in nature - small huts, harps, vases, etc. all part of the pictorial nature of these rugs. it sounds like you got a great deal on this rug.

Going by the appearance of the rug it seems this was probably woven in or around late 1960's up to late 70's. woven dates cannot always be trusted as reweaves are always possible, as well as replication of older rug designs (and therefore older dates)

That is not a date nor writing even though it looks like Kufi writing. You see that in almost all Kashmars with "Zir Khaky" design (Zir khaky basically means things excavated from beneath the earth) and looks like a 70s piece.
