Hello

I'm wondering if someone can help me identify this rug and advise whether they think it might be authentic.

I purchased it in Isreal in 2010. The salesman told me it was 100% silk but I can't remember the kpsi. Although I think it was somewhere between 400 and 800.

It was supposed to have come from Iran originally.

I paid $2700.00 US for it but originally they were asking $3500.00. For what it's worth, he also told me he would buy it back for $3500.00 if I decided to sell it shortly after getting back to Canada.

Thanks so much.

Sheila

Hi
You will need to send close up images of the back of the rug including the fringe

what they say always sounds good but that's a technique they use in bazaars to make you feel like you have the upper hand / got a good deal. Nick is right, we'll need some photos of the back and edges (under forum policy)

I've uploaded some additional photos. Thanks for any help.

I did not purchase this at a bazar, I purchased it from a place called Jerusulem gates souvenir in Jerusulem. It is an authorized antiquities dealer. I also found 2 small tags on the back which I have included in the photos

the round rug is beautiful, although to my eye it appears to be other than persian - perhaps chinese made rug with persian design. this would be based off the appearance of weaving technique and execution

Thanks RugPro for your view. I think though if you look at one of the tags in the photo I have attached, it appears to be Arabic or farsi writing. This would seem to confirm the salesman telling me it came from Iran. Again, I am no expert and this is the first rug I have purchased that would appear to be of value.

For some reason the images are showing quite small. Can you post higher resolution?

Hi Sheila,

With rugs it can be misleading to go by only by tags. Maybe someone on the forum could translate, although it's often more telling to go by technical characteristics of the rug. With the recent photos containing a little more detail, I still don't believe this to be Persian, but it is a beautiful carpet and I hope others on the forum may shed some insight with the newer/better photos now available

Chinese 300 line silk persian design. Not iranian - but typical for Tourist destinations. I remenber some time ago, I Thing it was in 2012 a dealer from Jerusalem posted chinese rugs in this Forum telling they are iranian. Seems to be very typical for these guys like in Turkey.
