Hi everyone,

I need your help because I want some information about some rugs I have got from my mother. I do not know if these or Kilims or Sumac ? I would also like to know which tribe made it and also how you can know how to recognize the tribe.

This rug was originally linked with an identical one that i also have. It was bought around 1979's in Iran.

Thank you for any information you could bring.

Regards

Arvin

Hi Nick,

Thank you for your answer.

After some research i finally think this rug is made by the Shahsavan tribe in the North West of Iran.

I found some specific similarities between mine and the one on the link below:

So i guess it let no doubt about the origins of mine. Now i'm looking for the different meaning of symbols on it

:) :) :)

Hi Arvin

You are indeed correct. It is a Shahsavan Sumac. The Shahsavans are a Turkish speaking tribe on the foothills of Sabalan in Northwest of Iran. You do find similar look products on the other side of border. In the past 20 years they have been weaving these in very fine weave and in silk. You have a nice piece there.
