Hi all

I am hoping someone can help to identify this carpet for me. It is prayer mat size, pure silk with very fine knots. I have a feeling it is Turkish but nothing to back that up. Any idea on where it is from and possible value please? The more info the better

Best wishes

Pierre

While the picture you have posted is helpful but a picture of a small part of a rug on its own does not help identify it. Having said that I believe the piece is pretending to be a Turkish Hereke but I am almost sure its a Chinese copy and since you have not given the size, they are about $800 a square meter retail.

Sure appears to be Turkish but more photographs of the selvage, fringe, and whole rug would be of assistance

Thanks for the responses. The rug is approx three and three quarter feet by two and a half feet. More photos attached. I purchased this 10 years ago in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia a few weeks after the Haj pilgrimage. The seller an Afghani carpet shop owner told me it had been brought and sold to him by a pilgrim to cover his pilgrimage costs.

Thanks for the response. Is the $800 a square metre for the real Turkish Hereke or for the Chinese copies?

Sorry I was looking at it on my phone and it wasnt showing up. I still think it is a Chinese copy of a Turkish Hereke.
