I am at a military base in Afghanistan and looking at rugs. I don't know much about and I am glad I found this Forum. The pictures in the post are of a 5' x 7' 100% sheep wool. The vendor says it is his best quality and orignal asking price before any negotiating is $1400. If anyone can tell me more about it and what a fair price is I would appreciate it. Thank you for looking.

buying from a bazaar type environment is a tricky thing. Send a friend in, see if he can get his feelers out there to get it for 1/8th the price. It could be worth more, but they play games

I'd say it is quite a fine quality rug for the rug of its type. Wouldn't say a military base is the best place to buy rugs - it's the equivalent of a tourist trap in Turkey.

The price is there to be negotiated down. Can't see him going less than half though (if he even opts to go near that price).
