Hi,
I'm new to the forum and have been finding the information on this site fascinating so thank you all for the great contributions.
I purchased a rug recently whilst in Turkey from one of the government supported "Carpet Weavers Centres" and have some concerns as the info I was given does not seem correct.
It is silk-on-silk and I was told was 1 million knots per square metre (which I now believe is incorrect).
It does seem to be silk when i have burnt a bit.
I was told it was made by the Dursun family from Hereke, but when I contacted the Hereke Carpet Weavers association they told me that person is from Kayseri. From my readings about style it does fit more with a Kayseri design. The "certificate" says it is "D.T Ipek" and Medallion pattern.
It is 138cm x 80cm = 1.10 sqm
I do really like the carpet, but I paid $4,500 (Australian dollars - similar to US dollars) which I think was too much now, but I am also wondering about the authenticity. The signature is at the bottom which I understand is unusual. Could this be a chinese imitation perhaps?
I will attach several pics (the Aust dollar coin is the same size as a quarter).
Thank you for any help!
