So I'm thinking of buying a second rug after my first recent purchase (see my other post about that!)

From what I know, it is a Pakistan made Bokhara. It is 6'6" (I think) by 4'4". Wool, 2-ply, approx. 230 kpsi. (Note that in my picture I've used a nickel, so divide by Diam of nickel^2 = .835^2 = .697 to get the conversion to kpquarter.) The wool is very soft to the touch. When I first saw it, I wasn't wild about it. I went back several weeks later and it has grown on me significantly.

Pictures are below; I apologize for not having the needed pictures for this one, but I took them before I found the forum and I can't get back to see the rug again until the weekend and hoping to get a rough idea before then.

What is a fair value for this rug? Thoughts on age (I imagine fairly recent based on "Child Labour Free") and other information? Thanks!

-Seth

Have just found this rug of the same design online:

http://www.orientalrugwarehouse.net/page17.htm

It appears to be of at least half the fineness when considering design details; for example, the rug I've found pictured above has 4 diamonds in the lower border where the rug in the link only fits 2. I'm not sure this isn't a scaling effect though. How does this reconcile with my original post? Could the original post be a cheap remake or is it the original which is being copied?

Thanks!

Seth,

Looks decent quality, I'd say around 180 knots (there are only 9 knots across the way). You can't really compare the two rugs with the images available.

Where are you buying (country, retail/private)? How much are they asking?

Little Persia,

Thanks; I'm buying in the US in New England from an antiques store that mainly concentrates on large installation-type pieces, furniture; not many rugs. They are asking $350. I don't think I can go very wrong at that price, but was hoping to understand the true value a bit better I suppose.
