Hello All! I've recently purchased my first rug which I am hoping to find some more information about and I am looking at buying another, which I'll go over in another post. Thanks in advance for any help you can give!
The first rug in question is tagged as a Turkish made "Hereke Ipek" with 100% Natural Silk with the dimensions of 2'2" by 1'5". The remainder of the information I can see about it can be found in the picture of it's origin label. It has 7+ colors with rich hues and a lustre to its appearance which to me does suggest silk. The fringe is of seemingly similar fineness. I have clipped several mm of fringe and burned it. It smoldered, self-extinguished and smelled characteristic of at least a natural fiber and, I believe, also silk.
I count 25L x 24W = 600 kpsi.
Pictures are below.
Can you give me any more information including confirmation of origin tag information, age, and approximate value? Thanks!
From what I've found, this appears to me to be genuine silk and hand-knotted. If it's Hereke, (which from what I've read is what the quality seems to suggest) then I think it is quite a nice little rug!
