Hello, new user here.

I bought this rug on eBay from a dealer in Germany. It was sold as Persian but without being more specific. I bought it because I like the colours.

It is wool on wool, size 183x140 cm (6' by 4.5'), quite thick.

I have been looking through books and websites to try to identify it but don't manage. Does anyone here have an idea?

I thought that Hamadan rugs are made of wool on cotton? I read that only old ones were on wool, and I don't think this carpet is that old.

often, but not always. At a quick glance, this has Armenian and Siberian like qualities too. Very nice example

Thank you both. I started looking more specifically at Hamadan, but the area is big and made up of many small areas, each with their own rug style.

It appears to be a Malayer and I would say it is Circa 1940. Its a very pretty piece and it appears to be in very good condition.

Thank you all very much. If it is indeed an old Malayer, I'm very pleased. It is indeed in good condition -- thick and no damage anywhere.

Any idea of the value -- for insurance purposes, not for sale?

For insurance purposes I think the value should be about Eur2000.

It is Hamadan area - the village it was made in is called Songhor. Typical design and knot structure.
