Bought this little rug on a whim. Love the playful theme.
Help with the origin, age and value.
I am told by a local guy (I'm in Afghanistan) that the inscription reads: Isfahan Haj Ali Namdari, not sure of the spelling.
I apologize for the poor photo quality, I only have an iPod to take photos with.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

It is a very fine Isfehan woven on silk with silk highlights. I have a feeling the signature was put in afterwards but difficult to tell unless you see it up close. The Signature does say Isfehan Haji Ali Namdari Poshtvar. Poshtvar is a village/ Town in Loristan. In a shop in the west you probably have to pay around $5000 for it if it is around 160x100cm.

Thank you for the reply. You made my day.
A couple of questions remain.
Why would the name be added? Was it a gift? Is it the name of the owner or of the weaver?
Also, what is the approximate age of the rug?
The size is slightly larger but by only ~ 6 cm in both dimensions.

In Isfehan the signature does not necessarily signify the person that has woven it but usually the workshop that has done it. During the early 80s it became a common practice to add signatures to very fine Isfehans passing them as Seirafian, which was very sought after at the time. I have not heard of Haj Ali Namdari and it could be that the signature was not added but was woven in at the time of weaving and he maybe a dealer who ordered the piece and had his name woven in. I doubt that it was done as part of a gift because usually the signature would then say so. I do not think it is more than 20 years old, again a bit difficult to tell from a photo with this piece but I wouldnt have thought it is more than that.

Thanks again for the reply. I really appreciate your experienced help.
Found Poshtvar on a map, quite far from Isfahan.
I would have thought the rug older than 20 years just by the appearance.
I've googled the name Namdari and can't find anything rug related.
Anyone out there ever heard the name?

I am still curious about this little rug.
I am posting a few new pics.
From looking a little closer, the signature does appear to be added. The red color is nowhere else in this rug and it appears that it is woven in to the lighter surrounding colors. It does looks to be very well done.
Another curiosity is the small marks about half way down the side of the rug on both sides. What are they for? Are they common?
I still love this little rug and want to know as much as I can about it.
Esphahan Haji Ali Namdarri Poshtvar
Curious.
Thanks so much again to Sharafi and Little Persia for prior posts.

the most recent photos appear to reflect Isfahan - although there also seems to be some color migration of red--> ivory.
