Hey folks, back again. Here is another rug that has come my way. The seller reprots it is a Hereke rug from Turkey. He reports buying this rug why he was stationed in the milatary in Turkey. It is 6' by 3' feet. Kinda of stiff, but in great shape. He wants a $100 for the rug, pix included. Any opioin on if this rug is authentic/if the price range is good. He said he bought it in the early 1900's.

Whatever it is it is certainly worth a lot more than $100 so that is a no brainer. It is a very pretty piece with a good weave woollen and I think it is Hereke.

Not Hereke and not Kayseri. It is Ladik.

One thing I love about this board is the differing of opinion, which then makes me research each area the rug might come from, then I educate myself even more on the history, the land, the people and beauty of these rugs.

Sharafi said they think its a Hereke, which then I researched and what an amazing rug making history of the town and the use of the rugs in the palaces. I found a couple of Hereke rugs that look a little similar to this one.

Then Nick said Kayseri rug, back the research and another amazing find and again I found a couple of rugs that look simialr.

Now KAD says its neither and It is a Ladik, OK, back to the research and Ladik is known for its prayer rugs, now the rug itself has a thickness and feel of a prayer rug but does not have the typcial prayer rug pattern though I found a few Ladik rugs online that sort of have the same pattern.

What makes you think it is a ladik KAD? pattern, color? or knoting?

Thanks again folks for all your knowledge and getting me into this hobby!!

No expert at all on Turkish rugs but my initial thoughts were Kayseri but that is just going on the weave and colours of other Kayseri rugs.

There is a optical difference in knoting technic between Hereke, Kayseri and Ladik - if you deal with These rugs you can see the difference from the way they are made. Ladik should not only be reduced to their well known prayer rugs (most of them are old or antique). Since the 1960 Ladik had a large Commercial output of floral design wool on Cotton rugs. Typical is a stiff feel, sort of like Kashmir wool rugs from the 1980´s.

If you search ladik rug on Google you will not find too much, but searching ladik hali (turkish for rug) you will find a lot of rugs that are made in this Quality.

Thanks KAD, now I see what you are talking about, so when you said commercial, do you mean machine made, the knots on this rug look ultra precise.
