We bought this rug from a dealer in Malatya, Turkey. He says the rug is over 100 years old. I know many of the birds are very similar to some of those found on Khamseh rugs as described by James Opie. What do you think? Can you help me?
How do I add the pictures?

Hi,
IMHO it is not old and not Khamseh. It's too tidy, symmetric and clean to be an old tribal rug. The bird motif is typical of southern persia, but that doesn't tell you where it's from these days. It could have been made in China, Pakistan, India... See this thread (especially the comments) for other experiences buying rugs in Turkey: http://www.internetrugs....-buying-rugs-in-turkey/
Ss far as value, I have no idea but maybe one of the dealers on this forum will chime in.

Looks like it could be a Persian Ghoochan to me, maybe half that age.

I am quite certain that Little Persia is correct and it is from Ghoochan Southeast of Iran, as I have seen this sort of production there and the back is very much like it. It is not even 100 months old let alone 100 years. The wool and dye quality is not bad but it is machine spun wool and chemical dyes, they sometimes use dead wool in this region. It is not one of the very fine ones and I think the replacement value of it is about $200 a meter but the resale value is not that great.
