I am sure it is Persian and it appears like an inexpensive Hamedan rug. First Floor, unit 9 1 Chandos Road London NW10 6NF UK www.sharafiandco.com

The fringe suggests Azarbijan areas but not the weave from the pictures anyway. First Floor, unit 9 1 Chandos Road London NW10 6NF UK www.sharafiandco.com

You may be right but the photo of the back does not suggest that. The nearest technique of weaving to your photo that I know of is Karaja in that area and I am quite convinced that it is not from there. Other techniques of weave from the area would give you a stiffer back which this piece does not appear to have First Floor, unit 9 1 Chandos Road London NW10 6NF UK www.sharafiandco.com

My first thought was an unusual coloured Belouch.

Typical romainan reproduction (Bucaresti)from the 1960 / 70´s of old caucasian rugs. Good quality wool. No great value but a good rug. They where brought from Romania go Germany / Hamburg to get an antique wash at Kiscan and where sold all over the world.

They also made Tabriz reproductions of such a good quality many persian rug dealers couldn't even tell they are romanian and not iranian. Most of the time PETAG style, Sheik Safi and classic 30 raj designs from first quater of 20th century.

I don't know if you can remember, we had a "Tabriz" rug come in for insurance work that we posted up here. Was a Tabriz garden carpet, looked great, but there was something about it that made us think it wasn't Persian. Turned out to be one of those Romanian ones.

Yes, I remeber. There are still many out there since the Quality was better than original persian rugs in same knot density.
