I would appreciate your expertise. This rug appears to be a Hamadan - it has the Hamadan weave, single wefted with big tan cotton wefts and smaller white cotton warps. Turkish (symmetric) knots. The field color is similar to the raspberry color one often sees in American Sarouks. I would guess that the dye is synthetic. Size is 40x70" (102 x 178 cm) and the pile is about 1 cm high.

It has damage to the selvedge, and minor loss at each end. Otherwise it is in pretty good condition. I plan to stabilize the ends, repair the selvedges and use it in my office.

So, is a it a Malayer? Does anyone have a good idea of what village this was most likely woven in?

I'm always amazed at how many distinct styles come from a relatively small area of Hamadan province.

I'll look for that Ghereh issue. I was indirectly helped by Taher Sabahi a month or so ago when I was trying to identify a Harsin Kilim. I found a reference in an old Turkotek posting: "In Ghereh issue 10 (December, 1996), Taher Sahahi wrote of a group of kilims from the village of Harsin, just to the east of Kirmanshah in Luristan."
