On my recent visit with a travel agency from Germany. Reise Service Deuschland, we visited a rug dealer in Cankurtaran/Denizli. I was presented two Hereke Silk Rugs and the price was 15.000 € for both. I paid 3000€ in advance and the rest I should pay when I came home. The rugs would be delivered in GErmany where I live, and they would have a certificate from the Turkeys ministry of culture, saying they were genuine Hereke Silk rugs. One referenznumber 227697 was 03.11.2009 made, and is 1,39x0,91 cm=1,26 m 2. The other refernznumber 227990 from 31.08.2012 is 1,28x0,91= 1,16 m2. They have 10x10 knots /cm2 or 1.000.000 knots pr. m2.
I have tried to find out if I have paid the right price. It takes 1 year to make 1 m2 silk on silk rug.
Does anybody know this firm Carpet Weavers Center, TEppichknöpfzentrum, Cankurtaran/Denizli. They all willing to give me in writing that they will bay the rugs back after 4 years for the same price. They have offered to let the rugs evaluate by a German dealer in Hamburg when the arrive about 15.03.2013.
I have not paid the rest sum 12.000€ yet, because I cannot find any Hereke Silk rug on the internet for that high price.
I attach fotoes of the rugs.
Can anybody give me a good advice. I see it as an investment.

Hello,
I'm not expert enough to comment on the authenticity of the rugs, but the price seems too high and I would be wary of sending them any more money. If these are authentic, they ought to cost 1500 Euro each, or something on that order. The only certificate that would be worth anything would be from the Hereke Carpet Weaver's Association (http://www.hereke.com/assn/contact.html) not the Ministry of Culture.

Check out this post from Emmett Eiland (a Berkeley California rug dealer) for many stories of people buying rugs in Turkey. http://www.internetrugs....s-buying-rugs-in-turkey/

1. Never buy carpets / rugs on vacation unless you know about the subject
2. Do you know the german phrase: Papier ist geduldig? These certificates are not worth the papaer they where written on.
3. If you buy a product as an investment it only makes sence if you get at least the money you paid if you sell your "investment". In order to have at least the money back you paid the price must be attractive. Comparing the price you would have to pay in Germany with the price you would have to pay in Turkey: If a rug costs 1000 EUR in Germany including all costs, customs, taxes and so on due to the cost of living, a fair price for the same rug would be about 500 EUR in Turkey. You paid far more than what the rugs price is in Turkey. And try to sell them the rugs back in 4 years - if the company still exists. If you like them - keep them. But they are absolutely overpriced if your intention is to invest in carpets.
