Persian Village Rug - Diamond Pattern with geometric flowers - what is it?

Measures 64x46 inches. Very thin what appears to be cotton foundation with worn pile in main field.

It's had some repairs in the past.

What is this rug? My rug guru didn't know. A rug store employee didn't know.

Is it worth repairing?

Also, it has not tags or other identifying information on the back.

It's ends were crudely tied and the selvage is odd in that I can't see the cord - just brown cotton running in a wrap pattern matching the outer wool?

I should also add that I think this is either something Persian - maybe a Qashqai or else an odd Caucasian piece - not a kazak etc, but something strange.

I've been reading Hali's and Peter Stone books trying to find it.

What kind of "rug guru" or "rug store employees" are there in Seattle :-))?

Design is a Bakhitari style. But rug is nut of persian / iranian origin. It is a reproduction made in Romania - most likely Bucaresti Production from the 1960 - 70`s. In this condition there is no real value. It is not worth any repair.

Indeed, I'm surprised that no one at the rug store caught it was a repro, but it was just a floor employee who reviewed it as the owner was out. As I was trying to photograph and post it I noticed that it doesn't look like any of my more recently purchased pieces and that made me worry it might not be authentic.

Thanks for confirming its identity - you are providing so much insight and help on this forum!

Oh well, I will use it as a "learning" piece for basic repairs and painting so I don't mess up one of the nicer pieces I've since purchased.
