Hello,

Can anyone tell me where this rug was most likely made, and when?

It is 4'9" x 3'3" (1.45m x 1m).
Turkish (symmetric) knotted, wool pile, about 5mm high.
Knot density = 100/in^2, 8 horizontal x 13 vertical. (16/cm^2).
White cotton warps.
Single-wefts, Blue cotton wefts, mostly, but some wefts are white.
The dyes look synthetic to me.

The previous owner thought it was Bijar, but he is not an expert, and it does not have the double-wefting associated with Bijar rugs. Maybe some newer Bijar rugs are single wefted (?).

Your opinions welcome, thanks in advance. Happy New Year!

It is from western iran, northern Hamadan District. The village it was made in is called Zaghe.

Thanks a lot KAD.

So, are these Kurdish weavers?
Based on the keyword "Zaghe" I found a couple of related rugs at JP Willborg's website http://jpwillborg.com/li...Page=16&brand=Zaghe .

The ones he pictures are from the 1930's. I suppose mine is newer - do you have an opinion on that? Are rugs still produced in Zaghe?

best regards.

Yes, yours is newer.

I added a few links to our website so you can see a few samples of Zaghe:

These rugs are still produced today. Usually good qualtiy rugs with good wool.

that's very interesting. I see that yours also have a short flatweave section on one end and fringe on the other end. When I saw that on mine, I was confused and thought maybe the flatweave had been cut off on one end, but now I see Zaghe rugs are generally that way. Good pictures on your website!

Yes, it is typical that these rugs have a kilim border at the lower end and fringes on the upper end.
