Persian Silk Qom

Woven within the last 20 years in the region of Qom, Central North Iran.
The design was created by using selected specialized dyes, which gives this piece it's almost antique looking character. This was a bespoke production and was created for the western markets.

Silk Qom's tend to use very strong colours in their colour pallet, seeing one with this colourway is unusual, but they can still be found in some fine carpet dealers on the UK.

I like the added detail the weavers have added to the flat woven kilim ends of the fringes. If it's not a signed piece, I would like to think this was a makers mark of the weaving workshop/family. These pieces are tomorrows antiques and with care and minimal maintenance it will be enjoyed for many years to come.

Let me know if you would like to know any more about the origin, design etc and I will do my best to help.
As with all appraisals via photography, my comments can only be 90% accurate unless the rug is in front of me.

Thanks for the post.

Thanx a lot ... You can see on the sticker: http://hifiholic.com/Carpet_006.jpg it says CHINA and IMPERIO 2?
It is made in China - or ...

Sticker is from huge German furniture store - Neubert, now renamed to XXL - http://www.xxxlmoebelhaeuser.de

I buy this rug several years ago in Germany - in nice antique furniture store, and guy who own it was my friend, he never put carpet for sale, was in his house - reserved for loyal customers [ i got some really nice furniture pieces there, and some great paintings too ] ... He cant tell me anything about it but what was printed on this sticker on the bottom ...

Now, i move from Germany to USA, and I am looking to sell this piece, i never put it on the floor, cuz i have 2 dogs, and don't want to destroy it ... Thing is , i pay the price i was willing to pay back in time [ still have original paperwork from store ] but - now is different time and prices are different in USA and Europe ... I try only ONCE to get some appraisal locally, but after guy offer me a $250 - i think i will go for eBay ...

Thanx again :-)

Hallo und willkommen im Forum,
rest in English so the other guys can follow ;-)

yes, rug is from China, sold by Neubert in Wuerzburg, Germany. Quality is called Henan single knot. Design and quality have nothing to do with Qum, it is a mixture from Hereke, Kayseri and Tabriz designs. Nice rug but nothing that holds value. 250$ is very little, but don`t expect to get a fortune. As seen on the pictures rug has a few stains and would profit from a wash. Ebay is a good idea.

Hi there :-)

Hum, this is 2 complete different opinion! If price on the rug - 13.900,00 Dm. back in time was right, then - Neubert got this wey overpriced - right ?

And yes, this stain on photo is not really a stain, just some splash, i can remove with some brush, but dont even notice until i camera show it ...

I don't expect to get a fortune for this rug, just to get my money back, or to keep it - if i cant get decent money for it - gonna put on floor - and let dogs enjoy the silk ... LoL .

I don`t think Neubert had it way overpriced - their prices are on the upper end, but it is still ok. 5 sqauremeter of fine silkrug cost quite a bit still today. Actually the rug was sold when the prices where a lot lower back then. Since the rug is priced in DM and as far as I remember Neubert had EUR and DM prices from the year 2000.00 (I was living in Wuerzburg at this time so I know Neubert very well) the rug was purchased at least 12 years ago.
For iranian fine rugs there is a good second hand market. Also you must remember in Germany the price is inclusive VAT which was 16% at that time - the seller had to pay 1917 DM salestax. If you look around a bit I am sure you can sell the rug for a price that is halfways acceptable.

Thanx a lot!

I feel better knowing i don't make mistake when i got that one!

Half a price what was paid back in time is OK for me to sell - i pay a bit less, but i still don't know if i want to sell it ... i REALLY like this rug and is in great condition and i really like design and colors ... Thamx for all info Mr. Karl-Heinz Ahmad :-)

P.S. BTW, i miss Wuerzburg too, been there a lot of times before they close US Army base, was a biggest PX back in time :-) Also a great restaurant @ Marienberg ...

Yes, Wuerzburg is a very nice city - even if they dont`t have really good rugs there anymore since we moved to Lohr ;-)with our shop LOL. My parents and my brother still live there, it is only 40 km from Lohr. I still have a lot of customers there so I am in Wuerzburg once or twice a week. Thanks for the nice picture :-) - was it taken on the Festung? I love to go to the Marienburg at Wintertime to see the sunset on a clear cold evening and then go have a few glasses good frankonian wine in the city to warm up again...
If you get to go back some time visit the Residence and take a look at the nice wall carpets. They where made around 1600 - 1650, very beautiful.
