Hi! I'm a new member to this forum seeking some advice.

I've come across this gorgeous carpet which i've been told is from Marshad. It's 4 feet by 6 feet, with silk pile and base. It looks like a fine piece with rich colours.

Nevertheless, from my reading online, carpets from Marshad are almost always made of wool. What gives with this carpet? Is it truly from Mashad?

Also what do you guys reckon is the fair value of this carpet?

Thanks loads!

Welcome to the forum.
The rug is a piece made in China, a mixture of tabriz and qum designs. Looks like it is junk, most of these rugs are made of art silk. If you can post a good picture of the back and give an exact knotcount I can give you approx price for USA. Are you in Turkey, Afghanistan or Irak at the moment? The other rugs seen on the pictures make me think this. Typical stuff sold to service members at way to high prices with wrong description. If the seller was a correct dealer he would have told you what this rug is. He knows it is China.

Wow thanks loads guys.

For a newbie like me, i guess it's really hard to tell a genuine Persian. Can i ask what gave it away for you guys? Was it the design?

The seller wanted USD1,500 for it. Will not be going back to the shop; its not so much about being overpriced, because i really like the design, but the fact that he lied about the carpet in the first place.

Thanks again guys.
