The 49"X71"bijar has very nice abrash and oxidation of certain colors. I've also read the salt and pepper pile is a sign of an older rug. However, the rug still has the stiff handle and much of the rug seems new. I.ve also tried to find blue warp with bijar and failed
Is it older or newer than 1940? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Hi and thanks for your post,

By looking at your images supplied I can confirm that this is not a Persian Bidjar. This rug is known in the Oriental Carpet industry as an Afghan Kazak, which would have been made in either Afghanistan or Pakistan, by local weavers under the Zeigler production.

This production employs natural dyed yarns, which are then faded to give it an antique/aged look throughout the piece, then the knots are cut very close to the pile to show an artificial, all over wear. The rug is relatively new and I estimate it to be woven in the last 5-10 years.

These pieces are great utility rugs and look great in front of a fireplaces or hung on a wall.

Please let me know if you require any further information,
Kind Regards,

Stephen Saunders

Pakistan Kazak, low quality rug. I am sure it doesn`t have natural dyes (these dyes are used in higher qualities). It is handknotted with wool on dark dyed cotton. Retail price for USA about 370 US$ for a new rug. Looks pretty new, or at least was not used much. These rugs are on the market since about 10 years in this stiff quality. Older rugs where better made.
