Hi,

My parents purchased this Qum Rug from an importer in 1968. Does anyone know whether it was likely new in 1968, or if they might have purchased it used if the Rug looks older than that? The rug is 10'-7" x 7'-7". Any feedback on approximate value will be helpful...I know my mother, who recently passed away, thought this was valuable (they did pay $975 wholesale, which was a lot of money in 1968!) I am settling an estate and would like to know if this is a $300, $3,000 or $30,000 rug.

Okay...but first hopefully someone will use their valuable time and explain how to include photographs to this post. (I have tried clicking on the "Insert Image" button, but nothing happens.) I'm sure it is something very simple I am doing wrong. Will re-post with photos as soon as I am able.

Thank you for any information anyone can provide.

Bradley

It is a very good quality rug with visible age. The rug was probably new or not very old when purchased. It needs a wash and some work to regain its beauty. Giving a value is difficult. In this condition you will not get much more than a few hundret $, maybe $1000.

I completely agree with CAD. This is the famous "Kheshti" pattern of older Quom rugs, a beautiful piece, but it would need a good, professional wash. If you find a private buyer, I would say you could get up to 2,000 for it. Good Luck.

Thank you, KAD and Rugfirm.

I appreciate your feedback and your willingness to share your expertise. I am just as happy to know that I can keep it for nostalgia's sake and not worry that I (or the dog or the cat) shouldn't be walking on it.

Thanks again for responses,

Bradley
