Hello, I am looking for some advice.

I took my silk rug to a professional fine rug cleaner. I feel like it came back looking a bit dull and the fibers seemed almost matted. Instead of feeling soft and lush to the touch it feels almost a bit coarse and thin. It does not seem to shine much, even how I remembered it did before cleaning. Is that possible or is it my imagination?

I read somewhere on the web (so it must be true) that lesser-quality Chinese silk rugs can be ruined by wet cleaning. I am pretty sure this was hand washed using shampoo and flooded rinses. It was also deodorized.

The rug is a decent but not great silk rug, maybe 25 years old, probably Chinese. This is a reputable high end rug cleaner, what could they possibly do wrong to make that happen?

Thanks.

Not 100% certain. I would be surprised if it wasn't though.

I should add that we can proceed here on the assumption that it is silk. If not, eventually the original cleaner or a restoration person will point that out.

For silk carpet cleaning, you need the chemical cleaning. They will add some chemical thing to fix the color and soft the pile. If the quality of the silk is high (I mean pure silk, not spun silk), very few fuzz will take off from your carpet. You will not feel very much different of the thickness of the carpet. We make the silk carpets in China that is why i know this problem.

Silk carpets are very difficult to handle as its so hard to clean it so it will be better if you go for a hardcore professional for the carpets cleaning, if your are trying to do at home never try to wash them with water, use the chemical and dry cleaning process for this. if you are not still satisfied try to find the best cleaning services who may help you to find the solution.
