The rug is 44"X67" My biggest question is the Zolfaghari. I am assuming it is an actual signature. Why, due to the high quality of the rug, and the rug fitting the descriptions of the rug However, let put that discussion aside.

I've found some reference to the name. O'Connel states the name is not as known in the West as Serafino, but he was very glad that he had found some for his own collection.

Does anyone know anything about the Zolfaghari workshop?

The last two pictures are detailed of the signature. The reason I was asking specifically about the shop is that if it is not of significance the signature doesn't really matter either way, but the details are now available

the proper way to figure if there is any significance - before even evaluating the name - is whether the signature was done during or post weaving. Speculating on something which may or may not have importance is irrelevant unless it is first authentic. If a rug is a Kashan style for example, it would be more relevant to understand if it is: first - hand knotted or machine made, If it passes for hand knotted authenticity, then consider is it Persian or other origin. Subsequent evaluations then should be made. It does not matter the name, until it is first part of the rug - or if somebody just stuffed or rewove wool in after the rug was made (not authentic). I assume you are reselling - the big point in selling a signature is that it is correct and authentic to the piece

I'm not selling the rug. I certainly agree that if I was to sell a rug at a premium I would need to be accurate in every detail be it age or signature. I was trying to make the question simple since I realize that authentication is difficult. It is valuable to me as a point of interest to know what I have on the wall, and that is the reason it was asked. I would also think the other participants on the forum would find the subject, including your comments, interesting.

I love the rug including the border, and I asked to have a fuller picture of how, and who it was made by. A large part of the fun of buying a rug is the discovery process of what I bought, and this forum has been a great help in this area.

Thanks for your comments, RugPro
