I found this rug at a junk store in Holland and bought it for 7 euro.
I know very little about rugs, but I knew the material was reusable and I was planning on taking the color out of the wool and maybe redyeing it. It came with a very thick yellowing rug pad made of what appears to be rubber with brown string running though it.
I decided to research a little bit more about the rug before doing anything to it, and from what I've read it seems that it might be valuable. It seems to be handmade and I really cannot tell how old it is, so as far as I know it could be antique/semi-antique.
The rug is 5.64 feet wide by 7.94 feet long. It seems to have about 5-6 knots a cm, so roughly 11-13 knots an inch. I do not have a US quarter so I can't use that as an example, but I took pictures of it next to a ruler.
I also took pictures of all of the stains and spots I could find and I'm interested in knowing if it's worth having the rug professionally cleaned.
Pictures hereI'm wondering if anyone can tell me if this rug is valuable and if so, how valuable? Any information about it would be wonderful!
Is it possible that it was dyed with natural dyes? I'd love to know a rough age estimate and where it was probably made.
Thanks in advance for your help and I think it's safe to say that this rug will not be getting redyed anytime soon.
