Store near me is going out of business, just wondering what the retail price/value of this rug should be, as I am a total rug noob.

7'5" x 7'8" Iranian handmade Gabbeh rug, all wool.

I am a noob and will try to link the pics below

thanks in advance

with sale price due to the going out of business, its about $5500-6000, original price is much higher. I still cant tell if this is a decent price or overpriced or what... any help with true value would be much appreciated.

Still seems a bit high. It has been a while since I have seen a gabbeh with red wefts, there may be somthing I am missing here, but I would venture to guess this is about 40 years old, and perhaps more likely attributed to persian afshar. I hesitate to speak to the $ based on this, but my initial thought was $1750 as a fair going out of business price but maybe there is something I am missing here.

thanks for the info and feedback...the store in question is actually a Bloomingdales, which may account for the degree of price markup. anyways, thanks again...though i really do like the rug, i dont think i could bring myself to pay so much more than it might be worth.

department stores are not the way to buy a rug unfortunately. however, you may want to talk to the manager of the sale and get real with them

wow, thanks for the link, interesting reading. that is basically exactly what it is like there. i had a feeling that was sort of how it was, but nice to see it confirmed, espcially since i dont have a good feel for appropriate pricing levels. any chance that you are familiar with a store in the DC area that you recommend doing business with for a persian rug?

It is a rug that was made in southern Iran. Gabbeh is not correct - Gabbehs are lower in knot count and have different designs from this rug. It is a brand new product with vegi dyes and good wool quality. These rugs are usually sold as Loribaft. The rug is of good quality (but not top quality) and will last for a long time. The red wefts are typical for this type of rug, along with dark grey or creme. A fair price for this rug would be around $ 2300 - 2500 in my opinion (Regular store selling price)! Reduced price $ 1750.00 for going out of business would also be ok, I am same opinion as RugPro.

If poeple really pay $ 5500.00 for such a rug (reduced price!!), it is time for me to move to the USA to do business there ;-).
