I saw this on a site where they had prices of Persian rugs per square foot. The problem is that the data seems out of date.

Is there a place (more upto date)that may have such info ?
Ideally it should be tied to the quality of the rug.

A hypothetical example (not current market prices) would be:

make/city ----- (50 Raj/equavelent KPSI) ---------- 60 Raj ..
=============================================================
Tabriz ---------- $50/sq ft ------------------ $60/sq ft ,...
Isfahan --------- $45/sq ft ------------------ $55/sq ft
..
..

I know I am thinking out loud here, but something like this would really help with evaluations.

Someone has a better idea ?

per foot basis is really not the best way to compare rugs as a consumer. Buying agents sometimes use per square foot as a unit of measure, but this is for comparing : two rugs of exact same wool, with nearly identical thread count, with exact same design, made at the same time by same manufacturer.... you get the idea - all in different sizes. You have to be very seasoned in rug knowledge to do this.

if you want to get a better handle on values, I would use the rug estimator http://www.rugrag.com/Ap...Viewer.aspx?FormulaID=11

I would not compare two different rugs by just knot density and square foot price. Values of two rugs vary too greatly to simplify in this manner. In my opinion, you would be misled to figure value in this manner. Especially with rugs showing use or two rugs made at different times - you would be very misled to not account for variables as one rug to another by square foot price. Buy the rugs you like, and buy them from reputable dealers.

While you can to an extent rule of thumb price based on quality and condition it's really only an very, very rough guide. There's far to many variables for that to work...

Although from your table Isfahan would be higher than Tabriz not lower.

Thanks Litte-Persia and Rug-pro for your feedback.

Playing with the rug Estimator, it seems it is trying to calculate based on a number of factors and that is a good thing.

The problem with the estimator is that it seems to be applying certain parameters without seeing if they are applicable.
ex. very high knot count is not really applicable to some carpet types (say Turkomon), yet it shows the price as changing.
