Rug was purchased in late 1979 but we know very little about it as my husband was small at the time. It appears to be very tightly woven handmade. We would like to understand where it's from and do a little research on it as it's unusual compared to many of the rugs we've seen.

The weft strings are quite long at each end and appear to be cotton although we haven't done a burn test. The pile is definitely wool but because of the pattern we haven't had any luck figuring out where to start on the research.

This is a Afghan Kundus Silk rug. This is a plant base silk not silk worm. Thats why it is not soft. You should be very careful when you clean that rug. Color can rug. Overall this is a very beautiful and good quality rug.
