Just purchased this from a Turkman dealer in Islamabad. very interesting design. 1 meter x 2 meters. 64 kpsi, 9 colors, wool on wool. 2 ply. estimated at 160 yrs...really? what do you think?

Please carefully review photographs needed in posting to the forum. We need back side with a ruler, selvages and fringe going into the rug.

Of course. thank you..I'm still new at all this. you will notice a white sleeve on the back, which if for hanging the rug.

This is the kind of rug which is best seen in person by someone who knows the type very well as many of these carpets were made with the same style, types of dyes and weave for many years. My hunch is that this is no older than 70 years and I am not saying it is even necessarily that old

Thanks! In my limited experience I've yet to see a Turkman with this particular design. It is a bit unusual and clearly not a classic design/gul except for the border motiff, i.e., the "s". I'll keep asking around as you suggest.

it looks like a tree of life type motif of repeated vase design. similar renditions are seen in much older rugs

thanks. Are vase / tree of life renditions done in older Turkmen carpets, becuase I've not seen one at all in the carpet books and shops I've visited? or do you mean this motif in general.
