Hi, I bought this rug in Iraq a few years ago and cannot anything similar anywhere. Does anyone have an idea of its origin, age and value? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

The rug measures 5'4"x7'8". I would go to the bazaar almost daily to look at the rugs, and the green in this one drew me to it. I cannot find a similar anywhere I have looked thus far. Thanks for taking a second look at it, any information you may have on it is greatly appreciated.

Looks like an older, fairly fine Pakistani Mori Bokhara/Mori Jaldar. Designed to be like Turkman rugs from Iran or Afghanistan. Although from the photos I looked at I'm not 100% - it could be a Turkman.

The pattern on the field is not one I recognize but the border is typical of a Turkman rug.

I went and looked at some photos of the Jaldar rugs that you mentioned and did see similarities in the border. The field intrigued me as I was told that people are not often portrayed on tribal rugs (If this is a tribal rug). The guy that ran the antique shop would go to the Iranian border once a week and get rugs. I also purchased a fairly old looking Tekke that was really soft and almost looks to be on a hair foundation. Can post pics of it in a separate post later. I bought the rugs rugs with the intent of keeping them and passing them on to my kids but would love to know as much as possible about them and what their overall value is. Whatever the value, I think I came out well, as I like each rug and only spent a total of 700.00 USD on 4 rugs and sold the one I didn't intend to pass down for 400.00 USD. Right now, this rug is on the floor in my living room, let me know if it is something that should be stored, or if I should put something between it and the hardwood floors.

this seems to be a pretty decent rug. I think it's an older piece, maybe 1950's. you should bring it to a dealer to see in person in case something is not coming across in images.

It is a Turkman rug from the north eastern area of Iran (Gorgan). Nice old rug. Since it is wool on wool I don`t think it is from Pakistan. It has an unusual color, condition seems to be still ok but with wear.

Thank you all for your input on this rug. I also think the over-all color is atypical, which was what made it stand out to me. There is some wear, and even a few repairs to it, which only adds to the character of the rug in my eyes. Maybe if it were to be sold that would detract from the value, but since I intend to keep it and pass it on to the kids, I think it is no big deal. I would like to take it and get it appraised and professionally cleaned as it smelled like goat when I bought it and has only been beaten and put in the sun to air since I got it home.
