Two rugs here...the gold one is pure silk, the cream colored one with silk pile and wool/silk mix weave. Are they common designs? Not something I had personally seen before.

I'll put this under the category of thoughts rather than answer. Qum rugs were not made until the 1920, Therefore they do not have a long history to follow. Bottom line newer rugs like Qum or new Tabriz do what they want and the design is much more independent than those tied to tradition. A turkmen rug is considered a collectors item if an antique has unique markings. A Qum rug does not have that identity.
